Woman arrested on suspicion of unplugging her son's respirator
By Roni Zinger-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

A forty-four year old doctor was arrested on Thursday on suspicion that she intentionally unplugged her 7-year-old son's respirator. The mother has denied all allegations.

Police were called to the Sheba hospital outside Tel Aviv on Wednesday night after an alarm was set off in one of the hospital rooms.

Medical staff told police that they caught the mother trying to reattach the cords from her son's respirator.

Police suspect the mother may have tried to check if the son was capable of breathing on his own.

The son has been hospitalized in an unconscious state since he was involved in a car accident a few years ago.

The boy's father told police that his wife was merely trying to connect the machine more securely to her son.
