Renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish to attend recital in Israel
By Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondent

Eminent Palestinian national poet Mahmoud Darwish will take part in a literary event in Israel for the first time since his self-imposed exile in 1971, an organizer told Haaretz Monday.

Hadash Director General Iman Uda said the poet will attend a recital of his poetry in his honor organized by Hadash, the Jewish-Arab leftwing party.

He said the Ministry of Defense had okayed Darwish's participation at the event that will take place on Mount Carmel on July 15.

Hadash said the recital, co-sponsored with an Arabic-language magazine, will touch on his work.

In addition, it said the city will take part in Haifa," the city that was for many years the home of his cultural activities and work."
