Thieves raid gravesite of famous Hasidic rabbi in Poland
By The Associated Press

Thieves have stolen an aluminum structure from the 19th century tomb in eastern Poland of a prominent Hasidic rabbi, police said Wednesday.

It was unclear when the 2.5-meter (8-foot) long structure, used for placing flowers and prayer cards at the tomb in Lublin of Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak Horowitz, was stolen. Its absence was noticed on Tuesday.

Police spokeswoman Magdalena Jedrejek said police were focusing their search for the structure on scrap metal dumps. The tomb was otherwise undamaged.

Horowitz, known as the Seer of Lublin, died in Lublin in 1815. His tomb draws regular visits from Hasidic Jews from around the world.
