Elbit Systems (Nasdaq: ESLT) group company Tallahassee Technologies (Talla-Tech) today announced a roughly $18.5 million order from the U.S. Marines for ruggedized computers, for use in the field.
Talla-Tech is a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Tadiran Communications, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems.
The Marines order is for small hand-held computers to provide situational awareness to the forces. It chose the Talla-Tech Rugged Personal Digital Assistant (RPDA-57), Elbit Systems said.
Talla-Tech, along with Tadiran Communications, has supplied rugged computers to the U.S. Marine Corps since 1998 in both mounted and dismounted configurations.
The RPDA-57 is based on the Microsoft Windows CE and Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system, Elbit Systems said.
The order is a small one in terms of Elbit Systems' backlog of orders, which stood at $3.8 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2007.
