The Jordanian press on Tuesday marked the 40th anniversary of the 1967 Six-Day War by blaming the world community for failure to deal with the Israeli occupation of Arab lands in a fair manner.

"The Arabs, especially the Palestinians, continue to suffer from the fallout of that war, 40 years ago, and the security and stability of the region will continue to be compromised as long as its consequences are not dealt with in a fair and legitimate manner," the Jordan Times said in an editorial.

"Countless UN resolutions were adopted to rectify the injustice of that war, but they have yet to be complied with by Israel," it added.

"Armies were mobilized for lesser purposes, sanctions were applied for smaller sins and justice, generally, was served to the most wronged nations on this planet," the paper said.

Another Jordanian newspaper, the Arabic daily al-Dustour, held the Israeli occupation of Palestinian, Egyptian and Syrian lands in 1967 as responsible for the "growth of the Jihad ideology" and other extremist doctrines in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

"Israel, which turns its back to Arab peace overtures, should know that the invincible military power on which it so far depended faltered in last summer's war (in Lebanon) and that its ally (the United States), which it dragged into a war against Iraq, is about to be brought to its knees," the paper said.
