Four Israel Defense Forces soldiers were lightly wounded Sunday when Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired four mortar shells at the Erez Crossing.

The soldiers sustained shrapnel wounds, and were taken to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon for treatment. Six other soldiers were taken to the hospital and treated for shock.

Militants also fired a mortar shell at the nearby community of Netiv Ha'aserah. No one was wounded in that attack.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Erez is the exclusive crossing for those wishing to enter Israel from the Gaza Strip, or vice versa.

Nine Qassam rockets hit the westen Negev over the weekend, including one that damaged a Sderot house on Saturday.

Earlier Sunday, IDF troops killed a Fatah militant during a raid in a refugee camp near the West Bank city of Jenin, Palestinian and IDF sources said.

The militant was identified as Mohammed Amin Farahati, 22, a member of Fatah's military wing.

The IDF said soldiers had killed a militant in an exchange of fire. They said Farahati commanded a cell responsible for liaisons between Islamic Jihad and Fatah's military wing.

The IDF also said troops found an M16 assault rifle close to Farahati's body.

Over the weekend, IDF troops killed five Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, including three militants and two teenagers.
