Tel Aviv resident, Julian Soufir, who confessed to the murder of Arab taxi driver Taysir Karaki from East Jerusalem two weeks ago was indicted Monday. According to the indictment, the 35-year-old French immigrant slit the driver's throat and stabbed him 24 times.

On May 14th Soufir got into a cab in Jerusalem driven by Karaki. During the ride, Soufir made sure that the driver was an Arab. When the two reached Netanya, Soufir told the driver that he needed to go into an apartment to get money for the cab fare, the indictment said.

In the apartment, Soufir grabbed a knife with a 20 cm length blade and returned to the cab, asking Karaki to drive him to Tel Aviv.

Once in Tel Aviv, Soufir offered Karaki to come up to his apartment. The cab driver agreed and went into the bathroom while Soufir lurked outside waiting for him to come out.

"When the deceased stepped out of the bathroom, the defendant slit his throat and stabbed him 24 times", the indictment said.

After Soufir had killed Karaki, he removed NIS 60 from his pocket and took the keys to his cab.

Tel Aviv prosecutors requested that Soufir be remanded until his trial. In their request, the prosecutors state that the murder was committed due to "racial motives and his hatred towards Arabs".

In his confession, Soufir said "I felt nothing. It was like slaughtering an animal. The Arabs are like animals. They have no souls, they are like animals."

Police were first alerted to the murder when officers from the traffic department noticed Soufir and his 21-year-old brother loitering in the center of Allenby Street in Tel Aviv.

When the two were detained for routine questioning, Soufir confessed to having killed the cab driver in his apartment and led police to the scene of the crime.
