Hamas says Israel's strikes in Gaza endanger Gilad Shalit

Hamas on Saturday warned Israel that further strikes against their military or political leadership would put captured Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit's life in danger.

"Israel can forget about Gilad Shalit if they kill leaders of the military or political wing of Hamas," Hamas spokesman Abu Ovadia said in an interview with the website for the armed wing of Hamas.

Ovadia added that a renewal of suicide attacks is "only a question of when" and said that Hamas plans on capturing more IDF soldiers soon.

Hamas on Saturday foiled a push by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to bring a ceasefire with Israel after IAF strikes in Gaza earlier in the day.

In a statement released by Hamas, the organization called for the Palestinian people to "strike down Israel," adding that Israel "has crossed all the red lines and only understands the language of force."
