Teachers union defers strike due to progress in talks with gov't
By Or Kashti, Haaretz Correspondent

The high school teachers union on Sunday decided to defer its strike planned for Monday after progress was made in talks with representatives from the ministries of education and finance.

In addition, the union called off sanctions for the next six days.

Representatives met on Sunday to discuss three key issues: Payment for teachers working with special needs children, potential erosion of teachers' salaries as a result of market changes, and teachers' pensions.

"We are expecting progress in negotiations given the positive attitude shown by the Ministry of Education," teachers' union chairman, Ran Erez, said.

Education ministry officials recently agreed to allocate NIS 45 million to teachers tutoring special needs children.
