AG approves members for panel implementing Winograd report
By Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondent

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz on Wednesday approved that members that will make up a committee established to oversee the implementation of the Winograd Commission conclusions. The cabinet ministers are expected to approve the line-up in the coming days.

The Winograd Commission published a partial report of its findings last month following an investigation into failures in the conduct of Israel's government and military during the Second Lebanon War last summer.

Mazuz checked the background of every potential panel member to ensure their participation in the panel would not pose a conflict of interest.

The implementation committee will be headed by former Israel Defense Forces chief of staff and former minister Amnon Lipkin-Shahak. The remaining members are representatives of both the public and private sectors.

A senior official in the Prime Minister Office said that a proposal was to be drafted Sunday, outlining the official establishment of the implementation committee and that it would be brought before the cabinet ministers for approval in the coming days. Immediately following the ministers' probable approval, the prime minister will meet with the committee members.

The Prime Minister's Office reported that the National Security Council has already begun working on topics to be addressed by the implementation panel, and that the panel would probably be divided into sub-teams, each responsible for the implementation of a different solution.
