University student union leaders are expected to decide on Sunday whether to accept the compromise proposal made by representatives of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and to end the 39-day strike that began just after Pesach.

The National Students Union decided on Saturday night to postpone the decision to Sunday.

The student unions at Ben-Gurion University in Be'er Sheva and at Tel Aviv University rejected the proposal on Saturday and said that they would continue to strike.

The Israel Student Union, which represents a number of colleges, decided to accept the proposal in principle, but conditioned their decision on a legal opinion confirming that the agreement could be implemented.

Over 200 students protested on Saturday in front of Tel Aviv University calling for the student unions not to accept the government's latest offer. The protesting students called for the head of the education reform committee, Abraham Shochat, to resign.
