Drill exposes serious security failures at Ben-Gurion International Airport
By Zohar Blumenkrantz, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service

Serious security flaws were discovered at Ben-Gurion International Airport during a recent drill simulating an emergency situation, according to an insider report leaked to the press Monday.

The report stated that the new Terminal 3, which opened in 2004 and cost an estimated $1 billion, is not prepared for a large scale accident or security-related incident.

An Israel Airport Authority (IAA) source told Haaretz that the authority is studying the findings and declined to comment on them.

In response to the findings, Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz instructed the IAA to immediately find solutions for the security flaws.

Ben-Gurion International Airport is situated near the town of Lod between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and is Israel's main gateway to the world.
