Seventh to twelfth grade teachers to strike in north on Sunday
By Tamara Traubmann, Haaretz Correspondent

The Secondary Schools Teachers Union announced on Friday that 7th to 12th grades in the Haifa district will be closed on Sunday due to a teachers strike.

The Haifa district encompasses Hadera from the south and Kiryat Yam to the north. Classes will stop at 11 a.m. and the teachers will head to a protest rally in the north.

Matriculation exams will be held regardless.

The teachers union added that they would expand the strike and cancel parent meetings, teacher conferences and courses. Furthermore, report cards will not be handed out and end-of-the-year parties would not be organized.

The teachers added that there would me no extracurricular activities, except for on Jerusalem Day.

A hearing will be held on Monday at the National Labor Court which has instructed the Finance Ministry and teacher union to resume negotiations. In the past month there have been six meetings between the teachers and the government, however no progress has been made.

The teachers say that the strike comes in the wake of the finance ministry's foot-dragging.
