Police Chief Cohen appoints new officers to top positions
By Johnathon Lis, Haaretz Correspondent

Police Commander David Cohen, who was sworn in this past Tuesday, met Friday with senior police officials and announced a new round of appointments he decided on.

Cohen said that Major General Ilan Franco, formerly head of the Jerusalem district police, will be replacing Major General David Tzur as Tel Aviv district police commander, who is retiring.

Major General Aharon Franco will be appointed police chief of the Jerusalem district. Jerusalem's former deputy policy chief, Shimon Koren, will be appointed police chief of the northern district, and the former deputy police chief of the central district, Nissim Mor, will be promoted central district commander.

Commanding the police's human resources division will be Amichai Shai, who was the head of the international investigations unit. Border Police Chief Hussein Faras will head the technology and logistics unit.

The changes that are being made are considered to be dramatic because they completely transform the senior personnel.
