Abducted troops' families mum on Winograd report findings
By Jack Khoury , Haaretz Correspondent

The families of the abducted soldiers decided not to comment Monday on the Winograd Committee's interim report and continued calling for the return of the young men.

Relatives of the two soldiers who were abducted in Lebanon, Udi Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, met in Attorney Yaakov Neeman's office on Monday to watch the reading of the committee's report on television.

Afterwards they issued a statement saying that 'more than nine months since the kidnapping of Udi, Eldad and Gilad (Shalit, who was abducted to Gaza), each additional day in captivity endangers their lives. Therefore, today of all days, the families demand of the government of Israel and IDF General Staff to increase their efforts to bring the abducted soldiers home safe and sound.'

The families said the findings of the Winograd report oblige the political and military leadership to act resolutely to bring back the soldiers.

Shlomo Goldwasser, Udi's father, told Haaretz that the families would not comment on the conclusions because they dealt with history. 'We are concentrating on the future and on the steps that need to be taken to bring the boys home, regardless of who the prime minister or defense minister is.'

Asked if he could rely on the government and prime minister after the harsh criticism expressed in the report on the way they conducted the war, Goldwasser said 'conducting negotiations is not like making war. I hope the prime minister or whoever replaces him brings about the boys' early release.'
