Four people killed in car accidents over weekend
By Jack Khoury and Roni Singer-Haruti, Haaretz Correspondent

Four people were killed in car accidents over the weekend. Police believe one of the fatalities was the result of an illegal car race. Another accident occurred on Route 6 as a result of a busted tire.

Police believe that before Fadi Rushrush, 28, from Ilabun in the Galilee was killed Friday night, he had participated in a car race with another driver on route 65 near Golani Junction. According to police, Rushrush raced his BMW against another driver, also driving a BMW, when both cars collided.

The impact hurled both vehicles to a nearby olive orchard. Sitting shotgun beside Rushrush was another man, who sustained critical injuries in the crash. Police suspect both drivers were driving under the influence of alcohol.

Another man was killed in a third accident that occurred on Route 85 in the Galilee Thursday night. Issam Ayad, 23, from Dir al-Assad near Karmiel was killed after another car hit the side of his car. As a result, his car overturned and landed in a ditch by the side of the road.
