State Prosecutor Shendar announces plan to quit in the summer
By Yuval Yoaz, Haaretz Correspondent

State Prosecutor Eran Shendar announced Wednesday that he plans to quit in the summer, after three years in the post.

Shendar informed Attorney General Menachem Mazuz of his decision, as well as the different prosecutors across the country. The timing of the announcement means that the committee to select Shendar's replacement can convene, in an effort to ensure a smooth transition to the next state prosecutor.

In interviews over the past few months, Shendar indicated that he had no desire to remain in the post for a full six-year term, but declined to state when he would resign.

He told Haaretz in an October 2006 interview that, "six years is too long a period, I won't remain here for the entire period.

"After I finish here, I won't need any cooling-off period. I'll go back to taking care of my own family, and not in the financial sense."

Shendar, 55, was appointed state prosecutor in August 2004, with the support of the majority of the selection committee. Prior to his appointment, he served for 11 years as head of the Police Investigations Department.

How green is your pet?
Green dogs are not purebred, they're not necessarily small, and they are not coiffed.
