Lands Authority worker detained on suspicion of accepting bribes
By Jonathan Lis, Haaretz Correspondent

Officers from the police economic unit and the Golan District on Wednesday detained an Israel Lands Authority employee and three other people on suspicion of accepting bribes and breach of trust.

The state properties in question were allegedly distributed to private citizens who had bribed the employee.

Police estimate that the damage caused to state coffers due to the transfers will amount to millions of shekels.

The employee is also suspected of stealing large amounts of money for himself.

During a secret investigation of several months, testimony was collected on the suspects' alleged fraud and embezzlement of Golan residents, and of demanding and receiving bribes.

Police sources said that all of the suspects were expected to be brought for an extension of remand on Wednesday evening.
