Jerusalem youth drowns after falling into Golan Heights river

A 15-year-old yeshiva student from Jerusalem drowned on Thursday after falling into the Sa'ar River in the Golan Heights.

According to preliminary reports, the youth was walking near a sharp decline with as part of a group when he accidentally plunged into the river below.

Rescue forces headed by Ilan Mas were dispatched and an Israel Air Force unit scrambled but neither managed to save the youth from drowning.

The accident occurred despite trip being chaperoned and co-coordinated with the Education Ministry.

Galilee police said they will investigate the circumstances of the accident.
