El Al workers call off disruptions to flights over labor dispute
By Zohar Blumenkrantz, Haaretz Correspondent

El Al workers on called of their threat to disrupt the airliner's flights late Thursday.

The employees had threatened the action due to the management's decision to suspend the company's Workers Union Chairman Yossi Levy.

El Al CEO Haim Romano summoned Levy to inform him of his decision to suspend him for 14 days because of his alleged aggressive behavior towards a company executive.

Levy told Haaretz earlier Thursday that management is planning to wipe out organized labor in El Al and that he would resist such a plan.

Levy had said workers would stage protests and disrupt company operations if management sanctions union officials.

Recently management and the workers union reached a tentative agreement over reforms and NIS 20 million budget cuts. However, some clauses are still disputed, such as employee demands for long term contracts in return for agreeing to a pay cut.
