A 35-year-old man who received lung lobe transplants from his brother and sister died on Friday due to complications from a chronic lung condition.

The transplant was performed ten days ago during a nine-hour surgical procedure and was the first time that a lung lobe transplant was donated by a living person. The siblings who donated the lobes were released from the hospital in good health last week.

Over 30 doctors and staff members took part in the transplant, including Hiroshi Data, an expert physician in Japan who has performed over 50 similar operations.

According to sources at Beilinson Hospital, the procedure can cure people suffering from Cystic Fibrosis and other lung diseases, adding that people who donate lung lobes are not expected to suffer health consequences afterwards.
