Police probing company owned by MK Lieberman's daughter
By Uri Blau, Haaretz Corresondent

Police are investigating the transfer of millions of shekels from abroad to the bank account of a company owned by the daughter of Deputy Prime Minister and Strategic Affairs Minister Avigdor Lieberman (Yisrael Beiteinu), according to a probe by Haaretz.

The probe reveals that MK Lieberman received payment amounting to hundreds of thousands of shekels before being elected to the Knesset and appointed to the cabinet.

Michal Lieberman, the lawmaker's oldest daughter, registered the company in her name in July 2004. It was opened under the name "M.L.-1," and described as an "international trade firm." The company, still active on Wednesday, was listed as based in Nokdim settlement, where MK Lieberman resided.

The company has received millions of shekels from overseas. In its first five months, the company took in NIS 1.8 million. That same year, MK Lieberman received a salary of over NIS 600,000 from the company. In contrast, his daughter and two other employees were paid much less - some NIS 100,000 combined.

The National Fraud Squad received information regarding the company several months ago, and has begun investigating the money trail leading to the bank account.

MK Lieberman's media consultant, Yossi Levi, responded to the findings by saying that the lawmaker had supported his daughter and encouraged her to start her own company. "Mr. Lieberman was responsible for the business development of the company," he said. Levi added: "The company was counseling clients, mainly from outside the country. It supplied services to other firms involved in wine production, real estate and agriculture in Eastern Europe."
