Haaretz journalists win Pratt Awards for environmental reporting
By Asaf Carmel, Haaretz Correspondent

Haaretz journalists Yulie Khromchenko and Tamara Traubmann won Pratt Awards for Environmental Journalism on Thursday for a series of articles published last year concerning processed food.

The reports focused on food products such as cereal advertised as especially nutritious. The two journalists examined the products critically according to their ingredients.

The judges' panel, headed by former Environment Minister Yossi Sarid, said the series was "the best and most professional reviewed in recent years, notable for a profound analysis and a unique integrative approach."

The panel added that although the articles did not deal with the environment in its direct, physical sense, they did concern the environment through the food people consume, its production and various economic factors involved in its production.

"Our motivation to publish the stories was the fact that food was a factor pertaining to the quality of life of people all over the world, and not a neutral subject as some perceive it to be," Traubmann said at the award ceremony held at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.
