Soccer celebration kicks off with beer and music at the Sportek
By Daphna Berman

Ten thousand liters of beer and live music performances await British and Israeli fans today in Tel Aviv's Sportek, ahead of the Euro 2008 qualifier tomorrow night.

The Ganei Yehoshua event will include a soccer tournament between England and Israel fans, a remote-controlled car rally race and the British Council's "Football 4 Peace" tournament, a match for 160 Arab and Jewish children aged 10-14, all from the north of Israel.

Music at the event, which opens at noon, will include Tal Friedman and the Krayot Band, the Apples, and Live. Throughout the day, shuttle buses will transport fans from the Tel Aviv promenade to Ganei Yehoshua. Events ahead of the match kicked off yesterday, as representatives from the Association for Tourism Tel Aviv-Jaffa greeted fans at Ben-Gurion Airport and distributed red and white candies in the colors of the English flag.

Throughout the weekend, the association will also be organizing free tours in English throughout the city. As part of the Football 4 Peace program, some British fans will travel tomorrow to meet Bnei Sakhnin fans.

Some 5,000 England fans are expected to arrive ahead of the match tomorrow night, about three times the number of Irish fans who came for the Israel-Ireland game in 2005.
