Gaydamak completes manifesto for his future center-right party
By Lily Galili, Haaretz Correspondent

Arcadi Gaydamak has stepped up efforts recently toward establishing a new party. In recent days Gaydamak has completed the political and social manifesto of his future party, whose leanings are center-right.

According to the draft manifesto, Gaydamak's party is expected to be moderate from a political point of view, with a clear social orientation. According to the document, Gaydamak supports equality and coexistence with Israeli Arabs, and also with the Palestinians.

Gaydamak also considers Israel to be responsible for the economic difficulties of the Palestinians.

The Israeli-Russian magnate held a number of meetings this week with leading figures from different sectors on the possibility of joining his party's list.

The most important meeting, in his view, was with a well-respected senior political figure, who held ministerial posts in previous governments. This person has resigned from party politics but remains active in public life. Joining Gaydamak may turn out to be a significant development for both men.

Following the meeting, the personality, who is affiliated with the political center, expressed readiness on principle to join Gaydamak politically, but also raised a number of preconditions. Among other issues, he insisted on the importance of severing the ties developed between the Likud under Benjamin Netanyahu and Gaydamak's party in the making.

This attitude is in line with the intentions of Gaydamak, which began to crystalize as a result of his consistently positive showing in polls.

According to a recent poll by the Maagar Mochot Institute, headed by Dr. Yitzhak Katz, Gaydamak's party has sufficient support to take 13 Knesset seats, and is also chipping away at the strength of Kadima, Yisrael Beitenu, and now also Likud.

Contrary to his unequivocal statements in the past supporting Netanyahu, Gaydamak now says that his party does not intend to work on behalf of specific politicians, and his support will not be given to anyone unconditionally.

At this stage, Gaydamak's party is not a satellite party of Likud, but is likely to form an alliance with Likud as an independent party.

It is also worth noting that among the meetings Gaydamak held with politicians this week, there is also a possibility that he will attract to his party a senior figure from the security forces.
