Friedmann, Beinisch name temporary Supreme Court justices
By Yuval Yoaz, Haaretz Correspondent

Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch and Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann decided on Tuesday to appoint two district court judges as temporary Supreme Court justices.

Tel Aviv District Court Judge Uzi Flugman and Jerusalem District Court Judge Yosef "Sefi" Alon will preside as Supreme Court justices over the next six months.

Meanwhile, the 10-month tenures of two other temporary Supreme Court Justices, David Cheshin and Deborah Berliner, will expire at the end of the month and will not be extended.

Alon is the son of retired Supreme Court Justice Menahem Alon, and the brother of MK Benny Alon (National Union) and Rabbi Mordechai Alon.

Temporary appointments of Supreme Court justices are made by joint decision of the Justice Minister and Supreme Court President and are not subject to the committee in charge of appointing permanent judges. That committee was planned to meet March 25 but some two weeks ago it was delayed and an alternative date has yet to be set.

Postponement of the committee's meeting was intended to allow recently appointed Justice Minister Friedmann to examine potential candidates.
