Rada murder trial delayed after questions on evidence admissibility
By Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent

The Nazareth District Court on Tuesday agreed to postpone the trial of Roman Zadorov, charged with the murder of Golan Heights teen Tair Rada, after the defense persuaded the court that some evidence to be used by the prosecution may not be admissible.

The defense cast doubt on Zadorov's confession and his reconstruction of the murder, both of which were key factors in his indictment.

The body of 13-year-old Tair Rada was found in December 2006 in the bathroom of her school in the Golan Heights town of Katzrin.

Zadorov, 29, worked for a contractor at the school and was the third suspect to have been arrested by police in relation to the murder.

The defense asked for the rescheduling in order to become acquainted with the complete body of evidence materials, totaling 79 tapes, of which only half has been handed over by police.

Zadorov's attorney would try to prove that the means employed by police to obtain his confession were illegal. The defense will also likely argue that Zadorov gave conflicting versions in part of his confession and was unable to locate the murder weapon, a knife. The defense will try to establish a psychological motive for Zadorov's confession that is unrelated to the fornesic evidence collected by police.

Rada's parents, Ilana and Shmuel, attended Tuesday's court hearing. The mother said that the police investigation has been negligent and that the school, where Tair's body was found, should not have been reopened the day after the murder.

Ilana Rada said "[the school] was a murder scene and some of the evidence might have been removed from the schoolyard." She recanted her earlier statement that she believes Zadorov knows details about the murder but that minors were also involved in the act.

The mother said also that her daughter had told her she had been harassed over the phone several times a few months before the murder, but that police only looked into the matter recently. In addition, Illana Rada said, police searched Tair's room very briefly.
