Man stabs, seriously wounds girl, 18, for refusing to date him
By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

A man on Monday stabbed an 18-year-old girl from Or Yehuda while she was sitting with another man in a car, leaving her in moderate to serious condition.

Police arrested a suspect, 19, who confessed to the assault and told detectives he acted out of jealousy. "If she can't be mine the no one else can have her," he told police.

The girl was brought after the incident to the Mesubim police station after midnight on Monday, and was taken to Sheba Hospital at Tel Hashomer to receive medical treatment.

A police investigation revealed that the suspect, who lives not far from the victim, has been trying to win her attention but she rejected him repeatedly. According to suspicion, the man followed the girl as she went out with another man Sunday evening, damaged the car (owned by her father), and assaulted her while she was inside the car.

The suspect was arrested after the girl's family spoke to detectives. Police said he has a history of psychiatric treatment. He will be brought for an extension of remand later Monday at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.
