Do you buy Tapuchips potato chips? You'd better check the packages at home.

Yesterday morning Elite Foods published ads in the newspapers advising the public that certain 50-gram packages of its natural-flavor potato chips made at PepsiCo's plant in Cyprus contain traces of pesticides.

The pesticides in the crisps originate from the cultivation process of the potatoes abroad, the company said.

Elite sells Tapuchips that it produces in Israel and Tapuchips that PepsiCo makes for it in Cyprus.

The problem affects only the latter, and only the 50-gram natural flavor version, which bear the stamp "ISS" beneath the expiry date.

Elite clarified that the problem does not affect any of its other products, including the Tapuchips that it makes in Israel.

It says a "small number of the affected packages may have found their way to store shelves."

It therefore advises customers not to eat Tapuchips that meet the conditions above. Consumers can call the company hotline at 1-800-777-777 to arrange for a refund.

This is Elite's second recall this year.

It yanked Shokolit cocoa powder after a problem with one of the raw materials. The company did not specify which raw material or which problem had been involved in the problem.
