Israel Defense Forces soldiers shot and wounded a Palestinian at a checkpoint near the West Bank city of Jenin on Friday, Israel Radio reported.

According to the IDF, the Palestinian ran in the direction of the checkpoint, and troops shot him in the legs after he ignored both calls to stop and warning shots fired in the air.

The Palestinian was taken to a Jenin hospital for treatment.

A short while later, militants opened fire on troops at the checkpoint. No one was injured in the incident.

Earlier Friday, an IDF officer and a Border Policeman sustained light wounds during a protest against the West Bank separation fence near the Palestinian village of Bil'in.

On Thursday night, IDF troops killed two members of Fatah-affiliated security services in a West Bank village near Ramallah on Thursday night, in what they said was a misunderstanding. Also Thursday night, an IDF soldier was lightly wounded by Palestinian fire in Ramallah.

The IDF said troops entered a building in the village of Beitunya to stage an ambush, but mistakenly fired at the security services officials instead. The Palestinians were not wearing uniforms or otherwise identifiable as members of the security services, the IDF said.

A senior Palestinian security official said the two men were members of the Preventive Security force. The official said the two were in fact wearing fatigues identifying them as members of Preventive Security.

Troops shot and killed one of the Fatah men when he came out of the elevator with an M-16 and a pistol and failed to respond when they called on him to put down his weapons, the IDF said.

Shortly afterward, the troops spotted a group of about five gunmen at the entrance to the building. The soldiers opened fire, killing one.

The gunmen returned fire, causing no injuries, and fled. They left behind five Kalashnikov rifles.

Palestinian sources said later that the dead were members of the Fatah-affiliated Preventive Security Service and National Security. The sources said the Fatah men thought the soldiers were from Hamas and had come to kill them.

In Ramallah, an IDF soldier was lightly hurt when Palestinian gunmen opened fire from a passing car. The troops returned fire, apparently wounding the fleeing gunmen.
