Abergil detained for allegedly helping associate evade police
By Rony Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

Itzik Abergil, the suspected leader of the Abergil crime syndicate, was arrested Monday for allegedly helping an associate escape prosecution.

Police recently received information that Eden Basson, an alleged associate of Abergil, had taken refuge in one of Abergil's apartments.

Basson had been wanted by police for interrogation in relation to an extortion and racketeering investigation.

After searching two of Abergil's homes, police found Basson hiding in Abergil's apartment in Ramat Gan.

Police arrested Abergil for allegedly harboring the suspect and helping him evade prosecution.

Rishon Letzion Magistrate's Court is expected to extend Abergil's remand Tuesday morning.
