HBO orders 40 episodes of Israeli series 'Betipul'
By Ruta Kupfer, Haaretz Correspondent

The American cable network HBO has decided to order 40 new episodes of the series "Treatment," based on the critically-acclaimed Israeli television series "Betipul."

The series portrays a psychologist who treats patients at his clinic five days a week and then seeks psychological treatment for himself.

The original Israeli series was aired on the Israeli HOT cable network and starred actor Assi Dayan. HBO will cast actor Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) in the leading role as the psychologist.

According to the Hollywood Reporter newspaper, "Treatment" will be executive produced by writer-director Rodrigo Garcia (HBO's "Carnivale," "Big Love"), who wrote and directed the pilot, Hagai Levi, who created the original series, and Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson who produce HBO series "Entourage."

Israeli actress Noa Tishbi who introduced the series to HBO, will be a co-executive producer of the series, alongside Hagai Levi, the creator of the original Israeli series

According to Report, the 40 episodes come in addition to the five episodes already in production during the current pilot stage. The 45 episodes will be the same number of episodes originally aired in Israel.

The series will feature Blair Underwood (L.A. Law, Sex and the City), Embeth Davidtz, Mia Wasikowska, Dianne Wiest, and Melissa George.
