Unknown assailants set fire to W. Bank settlement synagogue

Unknown assailants on Thursday set on fire a synagogue at the Yad Yair memorial site near the West Bank settlement of Dolev.

The structure was seriously damaged, as were the books and objects housed within it.

The Binyamin Regional Council suspects Palestinians to be behind the incident.

The National Union - National Religious Party called the attack "a shocking incident that continues the Arab tradition of vulgarity and vandalism."

The memorial site, west of the city of Ramallah, was constructed over a decade ago to in memory of Yair Mendelson, who was murdered by Palestinians at the beginning of the first Intifada.

This is the second time the synagogue has been desecrated. Three months ago the structure was broken into and its contents vandalized.

The Council has demanded that police investigate both incidents and bring the culprits to justice.

Local settlers plan to hold a protest over the incident Thursday evening.
