HOT backs down after BBC Prime threatens cancellation
By Daphna Berman, Haaretz Correspondent

The HOT cable company has announced that it will not retier BBC Prime in Israel, apparently in response to an ultimatum issued Wednesday by the British-based entertainment channel.

HOT was scheduled on Thursday to move BBC Prime to channel 170, a significant bump from its current slot. BBC Prime threatened to cancel the signal from London if the cable company went through with its plans.

"We are still negotiating with the BBC and we are not planning to move the channel," HOT said in a statement. "It will remain as is."

If negotiations between the companies continue to prove unsuccessful, BBC Prime will be removed from HOT at the end of the month.
