MK Gal-On asks court to release Winograd testimonies to public
By Yuval Yoaz, Haaretz Correspondent

Meretz MK Zahava Gal-On on Tuesday petitioned the High Court of Justice demanding that testimonies given at hearings of the Winograd Committee investigating the war be released to the public.

Gal-On, who serves as faction chairman in the Knesset, asked that the committee's hearings be open to the public and that all testimonies be published unless in cases of harm to state security.

In addition, Gal-On asked the court to have the committee hold off further hearings pending a court decision on her petition.

"Holding the hearings behind closed doors, far from the public eye, harms the public's interest and serves the interests of Prime Minister Olmert and the ranks responsible for the war," Gal-On wrote in her petition.

Supreme Court Justice Edmond Levy ordered the Winograd Committee to reply to Gal-On's plea within a week's time.
