Acre court extends remand of suspect in Golan teen's murder
By Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent

The Acre Magistrate's Court extended the remand of the prime suspect in the murder of a Golan teenager by eight days on Thursday.

Katzrin resident Roman Zadorov, 29, confessed Tuesday to the murder of 13-year-old Tair Rada, whose body was found two weeks ago in the bathroom of Katzrin's Nofei Golan High School.

Zadorov retracted his confession Wednesday, claiming he was under intense police pressure during questioning.

"I didn't do this," Roman Zadorov said prior to the hearing. "During my detention I wasn't allowed to sleep. I just wanted to sleep so I confessed. I don't do things like this and I have no connection to it."

Zadorov's attorney Moshe Spiegel told the court that his client is retracting his confession, reenactment of the crime, as well as any statement that can be interpreted as admitting to the murder.

"All these statements are false, they do not reflect the truth, and are the consequence of emotional pressure brought to bear on the suspect during the interrogation," said Spiegel.

Spiegel referred to evidence that could either strengthen or refute his client's connection to the crime, which according to the police representative was presented to the court in a secret document. Spiegel said the evidence points to his client's innocence.

The police representative asked the presiding Judge Moshe Alter to extend the remand by 15 days, but the judge accepted the defense's argument that eight days would suffice.

Zadorov's wife Olga said the pressure applied on her husband was definitely a factor in the investigation. "He is a wonderful man who doesn't do such things," she said. "Police pressured him into confessing."
She said she is concerned about her welfare, as well as the well-being of her daughter, and is considering not returning to Katzrin and possibly even leaving the country.
