PM: Restraint harder and harder in face of truce violations
By Amos Harel and Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondents, and Haaretz Service

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that restraint in the face of Palestinian cease-fire violations in Gaza was becoming "harder and harder," Israel Radio reported Wednesday, even though Israel is not responding at present to the Qassam rockets launched at southern Israel.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday fired five Qassam rockets at the Negev, following a lull of over a week.

About 20 rockets have been fired at Israel since the cease-fire was declared over two weeks ago, nearly half in the hours after it went into effect.

Israel Defense Forces officials said Hamas is making a notable effort to restrain its operatives and other terror organizations in Gaza, and to implement the cease-fire.

Meanwhile, the Shin Bet security service announced Tuesday that it had arrested some 50 Islamic Jihad operatives in the West Bank over the last few months.

The Islamic Jihad cell, in the southern Hebron Hills, includes seven Palestinians suspected of being willing to carry out suicide attacks. The operatives, headed by Hani Rajoub of the town of Dura, allegedly underwent covert training and trial runs for weapons manufacturing and used training manuals downloaded from abroad.

Four of the Qassam rockets fired Tuesday landed in Israel, causing no injuries or damage. One landed north of the Sderot cemetery, one hit the Kibbutz Or Haner area and two hit open areas near Kibbutz Niram.

In the West Bank on Tuesday, the IDF arrested eight wanted Fatah men in Nablus. One of them, Ramzi Abu Shalal, is suspected of making the explosives belt used in a suicide bombing in Rosh Ha'ayin in August 2003, in which an Israeli man was killed.

Border Police officers arrested three wanted Palestinians in Tul Karm, including a Jihad militant suspected of planning a suicide bombing within the Green Line.
