IDF soldier moderately wounded in shooting attack in West Bank
By Amos Harel, Haaretz Correspondent

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was moderately wounded on Monday when Palestinians opened fire on an IDF convoy in the West Bank town of Qabatiyeh, south of Jenin.

The convoy was en route to the scene of a Jeep accident, to assist in rescue efforts. The jeep had flipped over, lightly wounding four soldiers.

The Palestinians opened fire at a relatively far distance from the convoy, wounding the soldier in his head. The soldier was evacuated in an Israel Air Force helicopter to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. The army has not yet located the gunmen.

IDF soldiers earlier this month killed two Palestinians - a civilian and a militant - in Qabatiyeh, the site of Monday's shooting. The civilian was a 55-year-old woman named Fatma Nazal, and the militant was a central activist in the Palestinian Resistance Committees, 22-year-old A-Razek Baher.

The PRC declared at the time that it would hold back from responding to the killings.

Also Monday, IDF troops detained four wanted militants in the West Bank. The detainees included an Islamic Jihad activist in the village of Silat al-Hartia near Jenin, a Fatah militant near Nablus, and two Hamas militants in Hebron.

Troops also arrested a Palestinian woman at Jeb'ah junction near Bethlehem, who was found in possession of a knife.

Army sources said that during questioning, the woman confessed plans to stab a soldier.
