Kafr Qassem woman murdered in apparent 'honor killing'
By Roni Singer-Heruti and Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondents

A 30-year-old Kafr Qassem woman was murdered Monday evening in what is being considered an "honor killing."

The woman was fatally shot with a handgun in the entrance to her home, and was rushed to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, where she succumbed to her wounds.

One of the victim's relatives, a 70-year-old resident of Kafr Qassem, was arrested in connection with the killing, and the murder weapon was recovered by police.

According to the Arab women's rights group Kayan, the incident is the seventh honor killing this year.

A few weeks ago, Kayan opened a large-scale campaign against the murder of women in the Arab sector. The campaign has highlighted the dearth of outcry in the Arab sector regarding the 13 honor killings in 2005, as opposed to great public outrage over the killing of 13 Israeli Arab youths by security forces during the October 2000 riots
