Scooter rider killed in Bat Yam; 2 seriously hurt in other accidents
By Haaretz Service and Itim

A scooters rider was killed Saturday after crashing into a lighting pole in Bat Yam.

Police said the man rode his scooter into a pit on a trail for pedestrians for an unknown reason, and crashed into the pole. He was pronounced dead at the site by Magen David Adom paramedics.

Earlier on Saturday, a female pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident involving three vehicles in Jaffa.

A 28-year-old driver from Ashdod crashed his car into two other vehicles on the central Jerusalem Boulevard in the city. One of the hit cars was pushed onto a traffic isle and ran over the pedestrian, who was rushed to the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv in serious condition.

The drivers of the three cars were also taken to hospital.

Police said they believe the accident was caused by one of the drivers, who failed to stop at a red light. Detectives said they suspect he drove while under the influence of alcohol.

In another accident Saturday morning near Moshav Nir Tzvi, a 44-year-old man was seriously hurt by a passing car. The driver, a young man returning from a night out, veered off the road and hit the pedestrian and his dog that were walking on the roadside.

The man was taken to Assaf Harofeh Hospital for treatment. Magen David Adom paramedics also treated the man's dog and delivered it to the center of the Let Animals Live organization near Ramle.

Police suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel and took his blood sample to check if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol while driving.
