Soldier moderately wounded after shot in western Galilee
By Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent

An Israel Defense Forces soldier, a resident of the Druze village Sajur, was shot on Wednesday at an intersection near his western Galilee village.

The soldier is in moderate condition and he is currently unconscious and in intensive care at the hospital in Nahariya.

The Maona police, who is investigating the matter, reports that the soldier serves in the Golani Brigade and that the injury was reported by a citizen who passed by the intersection and found the soldier bleeding at the side of the road.

According to the passerby, the soldier told him that he had hitched a ride from the Kfar Rama area in a GMC vehicle and that during the trip he was attacked and thrown from the car, after which he was shot in his leg and his personal weapon was stolen.

The police investigators were unable to question the soldier due to his medical condition.

The Galilee district spokesperson, Superintendent Ronit Mualem, said the police was investigating all possible scenarios.
