Israeli Arab accused of setting fire to collaborators' cars
By Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent

An Israeli Arab was arrested roughly three weeks ago on suspicion of torching cars that belonged to people he suspected of collaborating with the security services, the Nazareth Magistrate's Court made public Monday.

The court made the arrest public shortly before Ahmed Mohammed Mahmid, a resident of Umm al-Fahm, was charged with burning four cars belonging to Umm-al Fahm residents.

Mahmid was arrested by a local police unit headed by Superintendent Ami Mualam, and was handed over to the Shin Bet for questioning.

During questioning, Mahmid confessed to the crime, and stated that his actions were not driven by ideological or nationalistic motivations, but rather because the owners of the cars had murdered his friend.
