Israeli hurt in W. Bank shooting; Three Palestinians killed in Gaza
By Amos Harel and Avi Issacharoff, Haaretz Correspondents and News Agencies

One Israeli was moderately injured Thursday afternoon in a West Bank shooting attack north of Hebron.

Meanwhile, three Palestinians, including two militants, were killed and an IDF officer wounded in three separate incidents Thursday in the Gaza Strip.

The Kiryat Arba resident was attacked in his vehicle when he was forced to stop by three Palestinians with a herd of sheep blocking the road.

The three Palestinians approached his car, one of whom drew a gun and aimed at the man's head. The man grabbed at the gun and was shot in the hand.

He fled the scene and was treated by a Magen David Adom Emergency Medical Services team at a nearby intersection.

The man was taken to Hadassah University Hospital, Ein Karem, for treatment.

Security forces searched the area in an effort to find the attackers, who managed to escape.

Three Palestinians killed, IDF officer wounded in Gaza
Three Palestinians were killed Thursday and an Israel Defense Forces reserves officer killed in three separate incidents across the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, an Israel Defense Forces reserves officer was moderately wounded early Thursday during an IDF arrest operation in Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza.

Palestinian gunmen opened fire Thursday on IDF reservist troops that had encircled a house in Khan Yunis, moderately wounding an IDF officer in the leg. Troops returned fire, killing one of the gunmen.

Palestinian sources identified the man as 22-year-old Lami Abu Lehya, a member of the Palestinian security forces.

The wounded soldier was evacuated to the Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva.

Hundreds of members of the Palestinian security services took part in Abu Lehyas' funeral Thursday afternoon.

Later Thursday, a Palestinian gunmen was killed in a fresh exchange of fire between gunmen and the IDF force operating in Khan Yunis. Palestinian sources identified the man as 18-year-old Ahmed Al-Barim.

Palestinian security officials and witnesses said meanwhile that a teenager was killed by IDF fire on the outskirts of the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun. According to Palestinian officials, the teenager was unarmed.

An IDF spokesman said troops fired on two Palestinians who approached to within 100 meters of the border fence, and did not respond when troops called on them to stop. Military sources said the Palestinians were apparently hunting birds with traps, and were not involved in terror activities.

IDF troops arrested 20 wanted Palestinian militants in overnight arrest raids Thursday in the West Bank.

Shin Bet foils attempt to smuggle 6 kg TNT into West Bank
The Shin Bet foiled an attempt early this week by Palestinian militants to smuggle six kilograms of military-grade explosives from the Gaza Strip to the West Bank. Details of the incident, which occurred on Sunday, were
released for publication Wednesday.

Shin Bet forces, working off intelligence communications, intercepted a cargo containing TNT-based explosives at the Karni crossing. The explosives were headed for the West Bank town of Tul Karm.

Three Israeli Arab taxi drivers, who were allegedly expected to take the shipment to the West Bank, were detained for questioning and released, after the Shin Bet accepted their version of the events, according to which they were unaware of the nature of the goods in the shipment.

A Palestinian resident of Tul Karm who is suspected of arranging to receive the explosives from the drivers was also arrested.

Activists from Gaza's Popular Resistance Committees are believed to be behind the smuggling attempt. They were aided at the Karni crossing, according to suspicions, by a Palestinian laborer from Gaza City's Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.

The PRC have been trying to operate terror cells in the West Bank by "remote control" recently. In June, they were behind the abduction and murder of Eliyahu Asheri of the Itamar settlement near Nablus.

Military-grade explosives are almost impossible to obtain in the West Bank, where terrorists use improvised explosives that are much less powerful than TNT and similar materials.

The Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday completed a six-day operation pinpointing tunnels for arms smuggling along the Philadelphi Route in the southern Gaza Strip. IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz said Tuesday that forces had located entrances to 15 tunnels along the border and estimated the presence of at least one hundred more.
