(Alon Ron) Last update - 23:01 24/10/2006 Netenyahu errs in speech, calling Ze'evi 'minister' in his gov't By Gideon Alon, Haaretz Correspondent An embarrassment for opposition leader MK Benjamin Netanyahu occurred Tuesday, when speaking at a Knesset memorial marking five years since the assassination of former minister Rehavam Ze'evi, when he referred to Ze'evi as having served as a minister in his cabinet. "I must say that when Gandhi served as a minister in my government, he always acted with wisdom, solidarity, responsibility, and fairness. Sometimes he would come up to me after a cabinet meeting, and say, I don?t agree with your position on X or Y, but if you are going to implement what you say, let me offer my position on X or Y. He would never say it manipulatively, but would as a true friend who knew his political limits," Netanyahu said in his speech. When Netanyahu walked back from the podium, some fellow MKs notified him that Ze'evi never was a minister when Netanyahu served as prime minister from 1996 to 1998. Advertisement Netanyahu was embarrassed by his mistake, rushed back to the microphone and said, "During the 90's, 'Gandhi' was a central figure in the opposition, and he would regularly participate in the weekly meetings. What I said refers to the time we were on the opposition together, not in government. He was not a part of my government cabinet," Netanyahu added.
