Siano supplies TV receiver to Chinese manufacturer
23.10.06 | 16:50   By TheMarker

TechFaith Wireless, the world's largest mobile phone ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) announced today that it is sampling a smartphone that supports multiple mobile digital TV (MDTV) standards. The GPRS/GSM smartphone includes a multi-band, multi-standard MDTV receiver made by Israeli fabless IC maker Siano Mobile Silicon.

The phone successfully receives the live T-DMB signal broadcasted over VHF-III band by Beijing Jolon Digital Media Broadcasting Co., LTD, a leading Mobile TV operator in China.

In addition to the T-DMB, the TechFaith smartphone is designed to support IP-DAB, and DVB-H.

Beijing Jolon President, Mr. Qin Xuegang , said, ?TechFaith's new phone is one of the first TV phones designed in China, and we're delighted to see the TV signal we provide here in Beijing received on a Chinese made phone. We encourage Chinese handset makers to make TV phones that will comply with our Terrestrial DMB service in China.?

"As the leading mobile phone ODM worldwide, TechFaith is committed to the challenge of quickly joining the MDTV mobile phone club," said Defu Dong, CEO, TechFaith. "We selected Siano for the TV receiver socket because, in addition to many other advantages, such as incredibly low power, and extended mobility performance, Siano's SMS1000 is the only MDTV chip that meets all standards and spectrum bands that are expected to be utilized in the China soon. This smartphone is the first product in a number of mobile TV enabled phones that we plan at TechFaith."

"We are pleased to help TechFaith make the record of one of the first multi-standard TV phones", said Alon Ironi, CEO, Siano. "Siano will continue to develop products that aim at allowing mobile device end users in China and elsewhere to receive TV everywhere, around the world?.

The TechFaith mobile TV phone will be demonstrated in Siano's booth (number B17) at the upcoming DMB Expo trade show in Beijing, to be held in the EMpark Grand Hotel, during October 25-27.
