Yuli Tamir considering running for leadership of Labor Party
By Haaretz Service

Education Minister Yuli Tamir (Labor) is considering contending for leadership of the Labor Party in the upcoming primaries, Army Radio reported Sunday morning.

Defense Minister Amir Peretz currently heads the Labor Party.

Army Radio reports that Tamir's associates suggested to her that it is her responsibility to enter her candidacy in light of the "vacuum" that has overtaken the party's leadership.

In tandem with preparations for party primaries, Tamir has also met with MK Avshalom Vilan, the head of the Meretz-Yahad Knesset faction, to discuss the possible merging of the two parties into a single "center-left" party. The two agreed that the Labor-Meretz consolidation should be explored in depth in the future.

Peretz's late wake-up
Never has a Labor chair been elected who was so close to Meretz politically and socially.
Who needs elections?
Olmert finally has an agenda - unfortunately, it's one of exploiting existential fears.
