Two maintenance workers electrocuted while working on Negev power lines
By Michael Greenberg, Haaretz Correspondent and Itim

Two maintenance workers were electrocuted Friday as they worked on power lines in Kibbutz Lahab, north of Be'er Sheva.

Firefighters evacuated the wounded to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva for treatment. One of the workers was unconscious.

The site foreman suffered a heart attack as a result of the incident, and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

An initial investigation found that the two workers, who were improving electrical lines from Israel Electric Corporation to the kibbutz, were electrocuted despite having turned off the electricity prior to climbing the five-meter-tall electricity pole.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor has opened an investigation into the incident.
