Professor Avi Ravitsky, who was seriously injured when hit by a bus in Jerusalem on Monday, had crossed the street at a red light just before the accident occurred, witnesses to the event said on Thursday.

Ravitsky, who is the head of the Jewish Philosophy department at Jerusalem's Hebrew University, was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in very serious condition. He has still not regained consciousness, after sustaining massive head injuries.

Police questioned the bus driver who was involved in the crash, but have not made any significant process in the investigation, particularly due to the lack of testimony from the victim. The driver was released from police custody 48 hours after bring detained and his license has been suspended for 90 days.

The 61-year-old Hebrew University dean founded the religious peace activist group "Oz Shalom," in the 70s and "Netivot Shalom" in the 80s. Later, he was the chairman of Meimad, linked to the Labor Party. He was also an Israel Prize laureate for research of Israeli thought. Meimad issued a statement Wednesday calling on supporters to pray for Ravitsky's recovery.
