Court sentences organized crime hitman to two life terms
By Nir Hasson, Haaretz Correspondent

Tel Aviv District Court sentenced Yaron Sanker, a hitman for the Ohana crime family, to two life terms on Sunday. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

Sanker was convicted on two counts of murder as well as armed robbery, attempted murder and aggravated battery.

The two murders were carried out on behalf of the Ohana crime family to avenge the murder of one of the Ohana brothers.

The judges rejected a request made by Sanker's attorney, Avi Cohen, to allow Sanker to serve the sentences concurrently, due to Sanker retracting both the confession he made to police and his expressions of regret over the murders.

According to the judges, the counts against Sanker are among the most severe they have presided over.

Nonetheless, the judges did decide Sanker will serve the sentences for the other charges on which he was convicted - which amount to 25 years in prison - concurrently with the life sentences, due to his cooperation with police on a number of other serious criminal cases.
