Former GOC Northern Command Maj. Gen. Yossi Peled to join Likud
By Mazal Mualem, Haaretz Correspondent

Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu reported Wednesday that Major General (Res.) Yossi Peled will join the Likud party. Peled is expected to turn in his registration documents Thursday morning to Likud headquarters in Tel Aviv.

The offer presented to Peled is part of an extensive process being conducted by Netanyahu with the goal of adding senior security officials to the party.

Netanyahu met in recent months with former chief of staff Lieutenant General Moshe Ya'alon, and Major General (Ret.) Yiftach Ron-Tal.

Peled is the first of the officers to have accepted Netanyahu's offer.

Peled, 65, served as GOC Northern Command from 1986 to 1991. Later he headed a series of public institutions, including the Second Broadcasting Authority for television and radio.
